Dear Parents/Guardians, Please find attached a letter to families from the Chief Medical Officer - Dr Tony Holohan.
Dear parents/guardians, Advice has been issued with regard to the wearing of face-coverings for children from 3rd class to 6th class this evening. The children in these classes are now expected to wear face coverings going forward, with this being reviewed in mid -February. Attached below find the guidance, which I would ask you to read carefully. This is new ground for all of us and I am aware that this guidance will bring mixed reactions. I'm also very aware that this is short notice and you may not have proper masks etc at home for tomorrow. We have some masks in stock but I am not sure they will fit all children. It will take the next couple of days to find our feet and adjust. I am just asking you to do the best you can. I know that this will be a big change for the children and to help with this, I think it will be very important to give them more breaks outside where possible with weather permitting until they get used to wearing the masks. Here is the link provided to demonstrate the safe use of face coverings. We will go through this in school but we would ask you to go through it with your child too. https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/aac74c-guidance-on-safe-use-of-face-coverings/ I would also ask that the children are provided with a ziplock or small plastic bag/container to put their mask into while they are eating or going outside. Also if your child could bring a small bottle of sanitiser which they could keep at their desk, this would also be helpful going forward. I know this is far from the ideal situation and the goalposts keep changing. My big hope is that we can stay open and stay safe. If you have any queries, please contact me by email and I will try my best to answer them. Kind regards, Miriam Burke Principal Scoil Bhride
